Canadian Pacific Lawn Bowling Club

Just a quick update to supporters of our struggle to preserve Cridge Park, home of the Canadian Pacific Lawn Bowling Club.

As you may be aware, earlier this month the CPR group made a presentation to Victoria Council on behalf of the Bowling Club and their request for an extension to the historic lease in Cridge Park.

After some debate as to whether Cridge is indeed a Park and hence subject to the public land use process or the City's no-net-loss policy it was agreed that the Club could stay for another year. This was with the understanding however that plans for a Cultural Precinct on this site would carry on.

The next step is the release in November of a 'Request For Proposals' Colliers International has been preparing for the entire Crystal Garden block. We will certainly argue that the Park should not be included in those considerations but have been assured that nothing will be decided before the civic election on Nov. 15.

With this in mind the CPR group is working to ensure our message is front and centre in this campaign. We're determined to have a Council dedicated to preserving parks and will be polling each candidate with a series of questions. Their views will subsequently be published on our web-site for voters to consider.

We will also be hosting an All Candidates Debate on the future of Victoria's parks system 7:30, October 28th at the Church of Our Lord's Community Hall 626 Blanshard Street. We encourage anyone interested in this issue to attend.

I thank you for your continued support in this endeavour. Please visit our web-site cridgeparkrescue.com for regular updates. If you would like to become more involved we are holding a general meeting at 7pm tomorrow(Tuesday) at the CP Lawn Bowling Clubhouse in Cridge Park. Everyone is welcome.

A petition is also up and running and I would be happy to make a copy available for your members to sign. cridgeparkrescue@shaw.ca

Thanks again, Lorne Carnes
