Charles A Murphy - friend and sailor

A friend and sailor
Murphy, Charles A., 87 of Vernon. B.C, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2008 in Vernon. Charlie served the Canadian Military during World War II. He was a highly decorated combat veteran, he also served after the war in India and Pakistan. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Charlie was the founder of the Royal Marsh Harbour Yacht Club in the Bahamas and Commodore Emeritus. He was preceded in death by his sister Miriam. He is survived by his wife Jeanne, his children Ashley Murphy, Michael Murphy (Mary), Lauran Gilbert (Steve), Geoffrey McCallum (Laurie), 6 grand children and 5 great grand children. In lieu of flowers a donation in his memory to the Royal Canadian Legion branch 25, 3300 31st avenue, Vernon B.C. V1T-2H5 The wind is now at his back.

Notice of Race

PATOS ISLAND CLASSIC - March 29th and 30th, 2008

The Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club will be hosting its annual Patos Island Classic race on March 29th and 30th, 2008. There will be a long course of 66.7 nm, along with a short course of 43.6 nm. The short course will also have non flying sails divisions for both PHRF rated and Club rated yachts. Final division splits will be announced at the Skippers Meeting on Saturday morning, March 29th.

SNSYC will provide moorage for participating yachts. Registration will be at the SNSYC clubhouse (1949 Marina Way, Sidney, B.C,) on Friday March 28th from 1700 -2100. Please complete and mail in the attached Entry Form, with payment.
Early registration before March 1st is $40, and after March 1st, $55.

In the Clubhouse:
On Friday evening, March 28th, starting at 1800 a racers buffet will be served for $17.95 (tax + tip incl.) per person.
Briefings on weather and tidal current will follow at 2000, along with the presentation of trophies from last years’ race, to skippers who have not yet received them.

Saturday at 0900, there will be a Skippers Meeting, with refreshments and light snacks.
Overnight, in the clubhouse, coffee, buns, and soup will be provided for sailors returning after the race.

The race will start off the Sidney waterfront on Saturday March 31st commencing at 1100. There is a 24 hour elapsed time limit.

Patos Island is a challenging overnight race; it is an excellent test of sailing and navigational skill. All boats must meet PIYA Category II safety regulations. Random inspections will take place.
