The CDI Premier League opened for CW at Jericho last Saturday. The League is bereft of twenty five of Canada's best domestic players. These players will be undergoing extensive training during February and supposedly were to tour to Ireland in March. The Ireland Tour has collapsed, with the potential window of win/win for Rugby Canada to view the qualitative progress of players by allowing them to play for their clubs, against each other in the Premier League, with something on the line. There is another proposal in the works and it will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

Back to Jericho, with sun on the snow capped mountains of the North Shore and the city, it was an idyllic backdrop for the contests. The First Div game was a rather lack-lustre struggle, with signs of rust predominating! In all, somewhat uninspiring but good to see the players back at it and a W for the visitors by a score of 5 - 3, the try being scored by Matt James.

The main game saw CW off to a lively start…

Folk;
Just a brief note to most of you who knew Ed Bryans and who were aware of his condition. Ed passed away early this morning whilst in Pallative Care. Arrangements have not been made for a service but I know that you would like to provide a good show for Irene and the family, if it is a public affair. I will let you know as soon as we hear about arrangements. I am sure a card sent would be a great tribute to this fine rugby man. His earthly pain has ended and he can now partake of the game they play in heaven. Address; Mrs I. Bryans #303 - 360 Dallas Rd., Victoria. V8V - 1A8

Watson Shines In Mombasa
Scotland produced a stunning display to beat Canada by three wickets in the second match of the triangular series in Mombasa on Thursday.

Canada won the toss and chose to bat first on what looked like a batsmen friendly wicket.

This decision would later prove to be the correct call as Canadian opener John Davison scored a quickfire 41 off just 32 deliveries - which included six boundaries and one six.

Right-handed batsman Ashish Bagai continued the impetus with an impressive 64 off 66 deliveries but it was top-scorer Qaiser Ali who did the most damage, scoring 70 from 82 balls.

The final assault came from Sunil Dhaniram at number seven. The veteran all-rounder scored 51 off 49 deliveries as Canada posted a remarkable 292 for five in their 50 overs.

Scotland struggled in the field. Their best bowler was D…

The rebirth of cricket: - the cycle of sporting life -- Posted Saturday, January 13 2007

Cricket – it's not just a chirp in the grass anymore.

Two years ago the Pakistani Student's Association requested the sport of cricket be re-instated at the intramural level, (at the University of Western Ontario), since it had long ago crumbled from lack of funding. This was a new beginning to a sport with a glorious past.

Saleh Zaidi, president of the Western Cricket Club, said he hopes to have at least 8 to 10 teams this year, improving on last year's league of six.

"This year we have a large inflow of Pakistani, Indian and West Indian students into the university who are interested in the sport. What I would really like to see is a lot of caucasian students coming out for the club," Zaidi said.

Although cricket is not as popular as other sports at Western, Zaidi said it is popular in Ontario and even more so in British Columbia. "There is a lot of British ancestry in B.C.…
