Visas 2006

Victoria International Six a Side
Cricket Tournament-VISAS
August 4-12, 2006
David Billingham and his cast of merry followers are once again preparing to host the world in beautiful Victoria, BC, Canada for the 11th edition of this renowned cricket and social festival. VISAS 2006 promises to follow on the success of the previous biennial VISAS festivals held since 1986.
The Crimson Tide has just returned from their Prairie sweep. Those of you who follow BC Rugby News would have been amazed by the speed at which Mark Bryant managed to post the match reports and results!! Mark traveled with the Tide squad and his reports were on account of a magic piece of nifty electronic gadgetry. Alas such modern electronic wizardry was not able to produce the much desired two wins and bonus points.

On the Friday evening The Tide V The Gold was a soggy affair played in a wet Edmonton. The Tide won by 24pts to Edmonton Gold 15 pts. The Tide players made hard work of the conditions and at one point it looked as if the Gold would prevail. A late interception sealed the game for the Tide in a match that some thought was “never in doubt!”

On the Sunday afternoon in Calgary - on a beautiful Prairie afternoon - the Tide played a game they should have won. It is never wise to leave a game so close that the referee can decide the outcome. However this is exactly what happened …

11 YEARS SINCE OAK BAY CASTAWAYS and FRIENDS

RAISED FUNDS for the SYMPHONY POPS.

I am looking at the 1995 photograph of the "Symphony Pops"at Windsor Park, where Oak Bay Castaways RFC and Friends(50 of us) , gathered to raise funds for the Victoria Symphony.

Fortunately, most of us are still involved with the Club in one way or another.

On SUNDAY, JULY 2nd, 2006, The Victoria Symphony will again be performing at Windsor Park, along with many other artists and groups, all as a part of the Oak Bay Centennial Celebrations. We have been asked to assist in not only helping in the control of crowds etc but also in the collection of funds to support the cost of contracting the performers listed below..

I appreciate that you will not be able to offer your services for the who…
As a member of the British Columbia rugby community,

we hope you and a guest will join us for a very special evening.

Friends of CW Rugby;

I am issuing the following appeal on behalf of the VIRU. At the AGM the other evening there were no names nominated for the positions of PRESIDENT and VICE-PRESIDENT, (Representative teams, viz. Crimson Tide). John Wrafter has stepped down after seven years of service and clubs volunteered to enquire of their membership if there is any interested person "out there" who may not have been aware of this situation.

Both of these positions are critical in terms of continued quality leagues functioning. The Presidency requires some time and knowledge of the BC rugby scene and the Vice-President is responsible for a budget of $40,000 for the Tide program. Should you be interested or know of some one who may be, please contact me at 721-1527.
